This policy covers the Focused Protection Foundation/Caring Connections Co-op community platform, hosted on our own servers.
**Our approach in one sentence:** We collect as little as possible, we never sell your data, and we never use your family's information to train AI models.
## 1\. What we collect
- **Account data:** Your name, email address, and profile information you choose to provide.
- **Activity data:** Posts, comments, reactions, event RSVPs, and other content you create as part of normal platform use.
- **Technical data:** IP address and browser type, used for security and moderation.
## 2\. How we use it
- To run the platform: logins, moderation, and keeping the community safe.
- To verify that members are adults who are homeschooling or virtual schooling a child for medical safety.
- To fix bugs and improve how things work.
**What we never do:** We never sell your data. We never use it for advertising. We never use your family's information to train AI models. This is the reason this platform exists. We built it ourselves specifically so that Meta and other platforms couldn't scrape our children's data.
## 3\. Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers who make the platform work:
- **Our hosting provider** (data stays on our own servers, via Cloudron)
- **Our email provider**, for account and notification emails
- **Our backup storage provider**, for encrypted off-site backups. Backups are encrypted before they leave our server, and the provider cannot read their contents.
We do not share data with anyone else unless legally required, such as by a valid subpoena. If we ever receive such a request, we will notify affected members unless legally prohibited from doing so.
## 4\. Where your data lives
This platform is self-hosted on servers we control. We do not host member data on social media platforms.
Encrypted backups are stored with a third-party backup provider to protect against server failure. These backups are encrypted and cannot be read by the provider.
We are based in the United States, and our servers are located there. This means data from members in the UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand may be transferred to and stored in the US.
## 5\. Security
- All connections use HTTPS.
- Databases are encrypted.
- Only trained administrators and moderators can access back-end user data.
- Platform content is visible only to logged-in members.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data breach affecting your information, we will notify you.
## 6\. Children and families
**Platform accounts are for adults (18 and older) only.** We verify this during onboarding.
Children participate in our community through their parent or guardian's account and under that adult's supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Parents and guardians are responsible for what their children post and for supervising their participation.
This is deliberate. Protecting our members' children is the reason we built a private platform in the first place.
## 7\. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- **See** what data we hold about you
- **Correct** anything inaccurate
- **Delete** your account and associated data
- **Export** your data in a portable format
- **Object** to how we're using your data
**We extend these rights to everyone, regardless of where you live.** Some privacy laws only require this in certain places. We don't think your rights should depend on your zip code.

## 8\. Data retention
We keep account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep records for legal or financial purposes.
## 9\. Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll post them here and notify members by email.
